Five Mortal Kombat Kharacters I Want To See In Mortal Kombat: Legacy

Mortal Kombat: Legacy proved to a successful mini-series of the famed Mortal Kombat series. It wonderfully told the origin stories of the many iconic Mortal Kombat characters. The first season is set to finalize with the final episode based on Cyrax and Sektor set to premiere at the Comic Con next week, but talks of a second season were already brought up. In anticipation of this season, I decided to compile a list of kharacters that I want to see receive their own origin story in the second season.

“*silence*” – Mortal Kombat (2011)

I expect longtime fans of the series to get on me for this, but I think Skarlet is a perfect candidate for the series. Her story can only be told so much from a DLC perspective. We know where she came from and how she came to be, but when was she crafted by Shao Kahn? We know that Mileena hates Kitana, but how does she feel about Skarlet and vice versa? There are many questions to be answered about Skarlet and this is a perfect way to show it. Knowing that the director likes to take his own approach to the familiar stories, just like the original Rebirth trailer and the Raiden episode, this is the best shot to show off that very method with a brand new character.

“We are many; you are but one” – Mortal Kombat (2011)

To this day, Ermac remains one of the most mysterious characters in the Mortal Kombat series. Making his debut in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, fans have been eager to know the story behind this character. Knowing he was crafted by the many souls captured by Shang Tsung, let’s go beyond his origin story. Ermac and Kenshi (see below) have a strong tie together that was never fully expressed. Kenshi broke the ties of Ermac and Shao Kahn, crafting a newfound fighter for good. Kenshi also helped Ermac develop his telekinetic abilities. This all makes for a spectacular origin and outcome story of not one, but two kombatants.

“Now I have but one goal: to slay the sorcerer who blinded me.” – Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance

Reasoning for an episode based on the blind swordsman Kenshi was pretty much explained in the reasons for Ermac. However, I still feel he deserves his own episode that ties in with Ermac’s. Perhaps a two part episode that links the two together. The first episode would of course be based on Kenshi, explaining the already familiar story of how he was blinded and the such. The second episode would then introduce Ermac and explain how he helped Ermac live a life of his own with his newfound telekinetic powers.

“Where there is smoke, there is fire!” – Mortal Kombat (2011)

Despite what the image may lead people to believe, I don’t want nor expect an episode based on the alternate timeline Smoke who remained a human. While I am more of a fan of this one, I would much rather have Mortal Kombat: Legacy stick to the original timeline. Despite the many changes we’ve already seen in the series, Smoke has always been one of my favorite characters and I would enjoy to see his story be told in a matter similar to the game’s storyline. Of course, start him off as a human assassin for the Lin Kuei and explain how he was transformed into this cyborg, in a similar vein to Cyrax and Sektor’s episode. However, this time around, Smoke would put a fight against this transformation with the help of Sub-Zero perhaps. However, in the long run, he would be transformed with Sub-Zero fleeing the scene. It is important to make note that Smoke is unwillingly transformed into this cyborg ninja.

Liu Kang

“You can look into my soul, but you don’t own it.” – Mortal Kombat (1995 film)

Liu Kang isn’t one of my favorite characters in the series, but there is no denying he is one of the most iconic. His story has been told countless times, and was one of the main focus points in the trainwreck that was the Mortal Kombat film, but this all goes back to the director’s method of storytelling – change. Change his story up this time around. Retain the basic elements, while bringing in some unique modern day storytelling aspects. Perhaps intertwine his story with the modern Raiden story. It can all blend so well, crafting a new story for Liu Kang that fans of the series would greatly appreciate and enjoy.

Honorable Mention

  • Jade
  • Reptile
  • Goro
  • Rain
  • Noob Saibot

  • blackxino

the show is alright but i’ll wait till all the show gets aired and someone or they make a full collection of the episodes in 1 movie. I can’t stand waiting every week for 10min episodes:/

the list is good but adding Emarc and Skarlet will be too much for their budget. Sfx would be required for them. I would like Kenshin to appear and Jade
