Earlier today, Kotaku reported that the highly anticipated Final Fantasy Versus XIII may never see the light of day. One source has told the video game website that Final Fantasy Versus XIII was canceled just a few short weeks ago. The source went on to say that Square-Enix wants the game to fade away rather than just come out and announce that they’ve canceled it.
Game Director Tetsuya Nomura has dodged questions concerning the status of Final Fantasy Versus XIII for months, telling Famitsu: ”Because of a totally unrelated reason, there are circumstances in which that info cannot be released.”
Another source told Kotaku that the game had been canceled but will be repackaged into Final Fantasy XV. Something similar was done to Konami’s Metal Gear Solid: Rising, which was canceled and will be repackaged into a new game, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
Is Final Fantasy Versus XIII officially dead? Square-Enix has stated that they do not comment on rumor and speculation, pulling a page out of SCEA’s book. If Final Fantasy Versus XIII doesn’t make an appearance at Tokyo Game Show 2012 in September, it would be safe to assume that official news of its demise would soon be revealed.
