Since PlayStation All-Stars’ announcement, we have seen very little on the game’s modes, including its story. Fans have had the pleasure of seeing several character announcements and surprises, and slight details on different game modes. Fans were also teased with a rival video showing Heihachi Mishima and Toro Inoue prepared to battle after some intimidation made by Toro’s pal Kuro. With confirmation that each character will have their own rival, here is a top five list showing which characters should battle who.
5. Dante vs Raiden
Two master swordsman duking it out? I can see it happening, and it would make for an interesting rivalry. Imagine the scene: Raiden walks in as Dante is slaying some demons. Dante doesn’t recognize the cyborg Raiden and is quickly prepared for a battle. Raiden accepts, of course, starting an epic collision similar to what is seen above. Perhaps a nice, quick cutscene of bad ass fighting moments. All in all, these two need to battle each other.
4. Sackboy vs PaRappa the Rapper
Both Sackboy and PaRappa the Rapper are characters that were never built for melee combat. Not only that, but both are pretty adorably cute and adorably cool characters in their own perspective. It is for that reason I feel that they would make for some awesome rivals. While Sackboy can’t talk, PaRappa tries to get a few words out of him. Sackboy uses his PopIt and pulls out the keyboard to converse with PaRappa – a nice breaking the fourth wall kind of moment – and after some smack talk, the battle ensues. Perhaps Sackboy can put on that PaRappa costume and perform the little “stick tongue out” motion to instigate the fight. All is fair in love and video games.
3. Cole MacGrath vs Sly Cooper
Imagine two of Sucker Punch’s critically acclaimed heroes going head to head. While both are very different characters, it’d be cool to see them go against each other as if they were a part of one universe. The Alden’s Tower stage already blends the two titles respectively, bringing in Carmelita Fox towards the end. Perhaps the two can prepare the battle there with a nice rivalry cut scene, as they both start scaling the tower in their own style. As the characters are jumping around the segments of the tower, they continue to smack talk about the other, similar to how Shadow and Sonic prepared their final battle in Sonic Adventure 2. Once they reach that point, the two jump at each other and the battle ensues.
2. Jak & Daxter vs Ratchet & Clank
Dynamic duo vs dynamic duo! Who didn’t see this one coming. The lombax known as Ratchet with his partner Clank are always seen somewhere in the world of Jak & Daxter, and vice versa. From a billboard in Jak 2, to an image on a TV screen in Going Commando, these pairs always manage to sneak their way into each other’s universe. They even teamed up, along with Sly Cooper, in PlayStation Move Heroes. These characters were meant to fight each other, their is no description to this. The encounter shall be great…
1. Kratos vs Nariko
Comparisons were made between the God of War titles and Heavenly Sword from the get go, so it only makes sense to see these two hack-and-slash brutes go head to head. Between Nariko’s Heavenly Sword and Kratos’ Blades of Chaos, the fight would make for a pretty epic brawl. My only question is the encounter. It goes without saying that Kratos is one angry fellow, my only guess would be that he just can’t say hello nicely to the pretty lady and her immediate response is the fighting stance. What is Kratos’? “Vengeance will be mine!” Their blades meet, and the battle ensues.
The Hopefuls
This list is compiled of yet-to-be announced characters, and who I would hope they would. Some are quite obvious, while others are a bit inventive. Since announcements aren’t clear, imagination takes toll with these guys. Let’s hope to see an announcement on these characters soon enough.
