12 Characters We Want in Injustice: Gods Among Us

NetherRealm is taking a second shot at the DC Universe license with another fighting game starring the comic universe’s best heroes and villains. The roster, so far, is shaping up to be a robust line up of familiar and not-so-familiar characters. With 24 slots making up the roster at the NYCC demo (not necessarily the final roster), iGo Gaming feels there are certain characters that should make the cut (in no particular order).

12. Aquaman

A common misconception is that Aquaman isn’t the most heroic of heroes. “All he can do is talk to fish!!” people tend to exclaim at the thought of the character. False. Aquaman truly is a bad-ass hero and can dominate over even some of the strongest characters. Not to mention Geoff Johns’ twist to the character proves to make him an even higher candidate for the roster. Fact of the matter is that Aquaman has a lot more to offer than talking to fish. Despite that, his super could very well be him dragging his opponent to Atlantis only to have the creatures of the sea destroy them in unimaginable ways.

11. Atrocitus

Green Lanterns, Sinestro Corps (or currently, Yellow Lanterns), Indigo Tribe, etc. While there are a great number of corps in the Green Lantern universe, nothing matches the upfront brutality of the Red Lantern Corps. The Red Lanterns base their strength on rage and are all about dominating their opponents to the death. NetherRealm has stated that they are trying to break the boundary between a T and M-rating. What better way than to incorporate pure brutality with the most iconic of the Red Lanterns? This blood-thirsty beast would make for some tankish gameplay focused on pure, brute strength. Think Solomon Grundy, only extremely pissed.

10. Doomsday

The roster is a bit too Batman-centric right about now. What of DC’s posterboy Superman? Superman also has a great number of villains that provide an interesting backstory and even incorporate some sweet fighting elements. A fine example of this is Doomsday. Commonly associated with the “death” of Superman, Doomsday is probably the strongest character in the DC Universe. It goes without saying that this character would also focus on complete domination and destruction, utilizing all methods possible to defeat the opponent. A cool gameplay element that would fall in line with the character would be to have him invulnerable to an opponent’s attack after excessive usage. That might be a bit cheap, but it would pay some sweet homage to the character.

9. Gorilla Grodd

This hyper-intelligent ape would make for nice representation of The Flash villains. Gorilla Grodd isn’t just a beast in terms of brutal style, but is an overall intelligent character. Aside from whaling on his opponents, Grodd can also utilize tech gadgets to weaken the opponent and even deal some extra damage. This way, Batman wouldn’t be the only character to utilize gadgets into his fluid combat. Super? Well…think Planet of the Apes.

8. Lex Luthor

This is pretty much a “give me” character. It is actually surprising that this character hasn’t been revealed yet. When the time comes, expect Lex to be in his iconic power suit, prepared to dominate over players using rockets, explosives and hand-to-hand combat, similar to his play style in Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.

7. Larfleeze

Another character from the Green Lantern universe, Larfleeze keeps the Orange Light to himself. With it he is capable of creating complete constructs based on people he has killed. This could create for a seriously devastating combat style. Imagine taking over a completely different “construct” during fights. Larfleeze has the potential of being the most inventive character in the roster if played out well.

6. Beast Boy

Another inventive character, Beast Boy’s moveset would compile of him transforming into various animal creatures and striking at his opponents. Think Green Lantern’s construct based moves in MKvsDC, only this time transforming the player you are playing as to deliver a quick combo. Air moves can change Beast Boy into a hawk, charging moves can transform him into a lion, etc. The possibilities are endless when it comes to a character like this. Plus, with Cyborg and Nightwing already a part of the roster, who wouldn’t want another Titan?

5. Bizarro

Bizarro #1! Just imagine the craziness created when this character is chosen. Completely rivaling all of Superman’s moves, Bizarro would be that one character that’s “out there” and extremely different. Despite the power similarities to Superman, NetherRealm can definitely create unique twists and methods to make this character even more different in personality than he already is.

4. SHAZAM!

No, he is no longer known as Captain Marvel. Another “give me’ character, SHAZAM! would utilize a similar moveset seen in MKvsDC with a few advancements and personality changes to better suit the modern take on the character recently revised. Besides, we all love seeing this guy and Superman duke it out!

3. Cheetah

Wonder Woman has a wide cateogory of villains, but not many stand out among Cheetah. Her incredible speed and agility would make for a very quick, combo based style, rivaling that of The Flash. Her enchanted claws and fangs would give Catwoman a run for her money in her possible moveset. Swiping away at Superman with Catwoman might deal some damage, but imagine the possibilites when Cheetah takes control. Catwoman would look like a newborn kitty compared to this speedy beast.

2. Pied Piper

Another villain of The Flash, Pied Piper could potentially prove to be one of the most fun characters to play as in the game. With a game style focused on his iconic instrument, imagine taking over your opponent with your clarinet and having them dealm harm upon themself. The hilarity behind the concept alone makes me laugh. Pied Piper’s moveset would definitely be range-based and heavy usage of his instrument, with few heavy hitting moves.

1. Supergirl

Yes, Supergirl would pretty much play out as a clone of Superman. Her moveset will be pretty much identical. However, this is no turn makes her the “same character.” Supergirl is well-known for being even more powerful than DC’s posterboy Superman. Reason being, Supergirl pretty much doesn’t know how to control her power. This would mean that her attacks are far more heavy hitting, creating for a devastating combo playstyle. Also worth taking note is that she can prove to be even more agile than Superman as well.

While certain characters are pretty much confirmed without being confirmed, some of our choices are a bit peculiar and far out of the box. That doesn’t defeat the possibilities. Any characters you wanted to see in the list? Let us know below!

  • Stewie

Your Runners-up list makes for a slightly better group than your actual countdown. Aquaman, Atrocitus and Lex are fair enough, but wouldn’t Bizarro make more sense as an alternate costume? As for Grodd, would anyone actually want to use him?

Sinestro and Darkseid in particular are surely a must. Choosing the likes of Larfleeze over Hal Jordan’s greatest foe seems insane. Good call on Doomsday though, the idea of him and Superman punching each other through buildings would surely make for one of the game’s greatest selling points.

You’re not wrong on the confirmed roster being Bat-centric though. Obviously Neatherealm haven’t finished yet and they deserve the benefit of the doubt for the work they’ve put in so far. That said, a few Lanterns besides Hal wouldn’t go amiss.
