Speaking at this year’s BAFTA annual game lecture, Quantic Dream Founder and CEO David Cage revealed that the developer studio had been pitching Heavy Rain to different publishers, including Sony and Microsoft.
David Cage had this to say,
“They got scared by the fact that Heavy Rain was about kids being kidnapped, and they said, ‘This is an issue, we want to change it’. Well, we could have kidnapped cats, it would be a different experience!“For me, that was a very interesting signal. It was like, you know what, I don’t think we can work together, because you don’t understand what I’m to achieve here.”
We’re sure Microsoft were kicking themselves in the ass over this decision considering how much of a hit Heavy Rain was, selling over 200,000 copies in its first month alone and earning Sony $131 million.
Quantic Dream’s next title Beyond: Two Souls is due out October 8th and will be released exclusively on PlayStation 3.
